PACK FOR A PURPOSE
We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travellers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you can make a positive impact on the lives of our local children and families.
The Havannah currently collects school supplies and distributes them to several schools in our local area. At the beginning of 2016, we gave out fully stocked pencil cases for over 600 children from 5 villages – as well as a great supply of teachers aides, including wall charts, flash cards and reference books. Each pencil case was age specific, so that younger children were given crayons, and ‘pretty’ erasers, pencils and sharpeners, progressing through to grade 5 and 6 students who are given pens, colouring pencil sets, solar calculators and geometry sets. Most families do not have the money to buy these items, and many of the communities we handed them out to do not have any shops nearby as they are on outlying islands… so this is truly a valuable gift for them that the students, parents and teachers really appreciate.
