SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Havannah has been working with local communities to help improve their standard of living. We have started with the basics: water, health and education, and with the support of our guests and other donors, these villages have seen some exciting new developments.

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT

The Tanoliu primary school project is an initiative we are particularly proud to be involved with. This has involved the construction of new classrooms and teachers’ offices at the school, a significant improvement of the roughly constructed bush wood, tin-roofed lean-to that was the classroom prior to 2016.

The Havannah contributed by supplying building materials and skilled trades men to complete the project. Our resort maintenance staff contributed many hours to building these classrooms.

The Havannah has also instituted an annual Christmas Tree Scholarship Fund for needy school children. The initiative has been going since 2013 and has contributed significantly in reducing the cost of education in the community.

COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

After Cyclone Pam there was a desperate need to provide basic necessities such as food, clean water and first aid to the community. The Havannah had many former guests and friends donate funds which we used for emergency food supplies, as well as infrastructure projects. The resort has been a proud parter with the community in installing a water project to provide clean drinking water to the 450 residents of Tanoliu Village, as well as assisting in the construction of two new classrooms and a medical clinic.
